Ash- Druid wands were made from ash twigs. These trees also have healing and protective properties. A favorite of the fae.
Apple- It is known to be the home of unicorns. It is also said that faeries inhabit the apple tree and could enchant mortals who lingered beneath them and carry them off to Fairyland. To ensure good harvests, leave the last apple of your crop as an offering. It has been used in love spells for hundreds of years and is faery favorite.
Bay- a tree of old gods and it's spirit is valiant and its fragrance and essence celebrate valor and human triumph. Bay leaves taken in your food will have healing and restorative effects. A favorite of the faeries.
Birch- sometimes known as the "Lady of the Woods", the silver birch is a goddess tree. It is a symbol of summer and of the festival of first fruits. Folklore says it is a tree of paradise, an emblem of everlasting summer that prevails in the spirit world. It is also said that the oak and the birch are husband and wife -- that wherever the birch takes root, the oak will come and grow nearby. A faery favorite.
Elder- this tree is sacred to the Druid clans. It is the tree of the beginning and the end. Sometimes said to be a witch disguised as a tree. There is an old legend that to sleep under an elder tree will cause dangerous dreams of Faeryland from which there might be no return or will induce madness upon waking. A fae favorite.
Elm- the elm tree was originally called "Elven" because of its association with the faeries. It is said that the best way to attract communication with the fae is to plant an elm. Dreams are said to dwell under every leaf and for this reason, the leaves can be used to heighten dreamwork.
Hazel- a tree of kindly witchcraft and assorted blessings. The Druids held this tree as a receptacle for wisdom and knowledge, poetry and fire, beauty and fecundity. It is also a symbol of fertility in England. Forked branches from the hazel tree can be used as divining wands. A fae favorite.
Hawthorn- sacred to the fae and a powerful tree of protection. Also associated with happiness in love and marriage and was carried by brides in ancient Greece and Rome. Sitting under a hawthorne on Beltane is said to put one in danger of being carried away by faeries.
Holly- a lucky and life affirming tree. A powerful symbol of long lasting vitality. Its presence in the garden will ward off unfriendly spirits.
Oak- the oak is considered sacred in many cultures. Druid's revered this holy tree of truth and mistletoe to which it is host. There is an old tale that Jupiter's voice may be heard in the rustling of its leaves. Another legend is that holes near the bottom of old trees are the doorway to Fairyland. Linking with the Oak Faeries awakens visions of your future. It gives peace and shelter. Hang in windows to protect the house. A favorite of the fae.
Rowan- protects from bad spirits. It is said if a rowan takes root on your garden, all who dwell in the home will be blessed as the garden is under the special protection of the faeries. It is a witch or "wicken" tree and is of the goddess. The berries can be used as as a good luck charm and a necklace of them can be used for healing. A faery favorite!
Willow- Associated with Brigid in Celtic tradition. Opens vision and communication. Willow wands can be used for healing. Willow brings the blessings of the Moon to those who plant it or have it on their property.
