¥ Sex magick and spiritual sex are ancient practices.
Generally speaking, these arts are used to raise energy, consciousness,
and connection to the divine. Some see it as a religious act and
as a way of connecting to the power of the universe.
¥
Hindu tantrism originated thousands of years
ago in ancient India and is still practiced by a minority today.
It was once widespread in Southeast Asia.
¥
Kundalini Yoga is a way to raise energy through
the chakras. Moving the energy up the chakras creates a connection
to the divine through the activation and awakening of the kundalini
serpent that sleeps in our solar plexus chakra.
¥
Tantric yoga, originating in ancient India, sees
sacred sex as a metaphor for spiritual union. It is seen as a means
of aligning with the principle of creation.
¥
Tantric Buddhism is a merging of ancient Buddhism
and ancient sexual disciplines. It embraces the belief of a mutual
and sensual interplay of the male and female principles and the
cosmic energy that binds the universe in a continual state of ecstatic
and all embracing love. It was once prevelant in Tibet, Mongolia
and Nepal.
¥
Taoism also expresses a theory of sex as a way
of coming near to the infinite. Sexual energy is another form of
chi, the life force energy which combines both yin (female) and
yang (male) energies.
¥
Sufi mystics once practiced a form of tantrism.
European troubadours and bards who professed the ideas of Courtly
Love were influenced by these mystics.
¥
Karezza is a primarily Western form of tantra.
Popularized in the 19th century by Dr. Alice Bunker Stockham who
journeyed to India to learn the secrets of Hindu tantra, Karezza
allows the partners to experience the presence of the deity in one
another.
