AROMATHERAPY
Aromatherapy is the art and science of using plant oils and
essences to create positive effects on the mind, body and
spirit.
The art of using pure and unadulterated essential oils from plants dates back some 5,000 years to the ancient Egyptians.
The essential oils, the "life force" of the plants,
are extracted from a variety of plants and flowers, herbs,
spices and trees and are utilized in the practice of aromatherapy.

The oils, through inhalation and topical use on the skin,
have a powerful effect through our sense of smell. Smell(olfaction)
is the most mysterious of our senses and yet it is possibly
the most powerful. The olfactory membrane is the only place
in the human body where the central nervous system is exposed
and in direct contact with our surroundings. When an olfactory
receptor cell is stimulated, an impulse travels along the
olfactory nerve to the limbic portion of the brain (the reptilian
or old brain) where memory, hunger, sexuality or emotion is
evoked. Before consciously knowing we are in contact with
an aroma, our subconscious mind has already received and reacted
to it.
